PROJECT
UK’s most downloaded free iPhone app of 2021 with over 25 million users.
NHS Digital had commissioned Kainos to develop the NHS App, for citizens to access their national health services digitally.
Challenge
The NHS App is the front door to health services across the NHS.
Some GP surgeries offer extra services provided by third party suppliers. These suppliers help their patients connect with healthcare teams and hospitals.
The NHS App integrated several different third party services into the app to date, like online consultations, health tracking and care plans.
One of the suppliers offering these services in the NHS App is Patients Know Best (PKB).
PKB offer secondary care services to users so that they can monitor their long-term health conditions and keep in contact with their health teams better. This has proven a valuable asset to patients throughout the pandemic.
Solution
To integrate these services, we create what we call ‘jump off points’ into their service from the app, which are displayed as panel links.
Below you can see the Your health hub, containing five PKB jump off points, below the GP health record panel link:
- Test results
- Care plans
- Track your health
- Shared health links
- Record sharing
All of the content in the Your Health hub has been designed by myself, working alongside a UX designer and UX researcher.
To ensure the panel link content (title and description) is user friendly, we test all of our content and user journeys before they go live with real NHS App users.
